Gordan Stanković

Dr. Gordan Stanković is a shipping and admiralty partner at Vukić, Jelušić, Šulina, Stanković, Jurcan & Jabuka, Croatia's leading commercial law firm, based in Rijeka. With two LL.M. degrees (Split and Southampton) and a Ph.D. in shipping law and admiralty (Split), backed up with seventeen years in practice, he has a deep knowledge and wide experience in various specialist fields of this area of law (ports and maritime infrastructure, shipbuilding, ship-finance, commercial disputes, cargo claims, salvage, environmental damages, personal injury, marine insurance).

 

Gordan was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Tulane Law School. He is the author or editor of two shipping law books and a series of papers and written contributions, including the chapter on Croatia in "Kluwer's International Encyclopaedia of Laws – Transport Law". He has given presentations on a number of expert seminars and symposia.

 

Gordan has been involved in drafting of the Croatian Maritime Code as member of the working groups on registration of ships, liens and mortgages, judicial sale of ships and ship arrest. He provided advice to the Croatian Government on legal aspects of recent major restructuring of the Croatian shipbuilding industry.

 

He is an international arbitrator at the Permanent Court of Arbitration of the Croatian Chamber of Economy and International Arbitral Centre of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.

 

Gordan has lectured shipping law at the Rijeka and Split Faculties of Law as well as Rijeka Faculty of Maritime Studies.

 

He is member of the Croatian Bar Association, Croatian Maritime Law Association and International Bar Association.
